26th Canal Boat Captain’s Luncheon Honorees: Seneca Historical Guild
In December of 1942, there she was! A 327 foot, 5,500 ton, steel Landing Ship Tank ship (LST), sailing from the Prairie Shipyard in Seneca, Illinois. She was launched sideways from a slip at about 22 miles per hour, splashed into the Illinois River, and made her way to the ocean via the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.
