26th Canal Boat Captain’s Luncheon Honorees: Seneca Historical Guild

In December of 1942, there she was! A 327 foot, 5,500 ton, steel Landing Ship Tank ship (LST), sailing from the Prairie Shipyard in Seneca, Illinois. She was launched sideways from a slip at about 22 miles per hour, splashed into the Illinois River, and made her way to the ocean via the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.

26th Canal Boat Captain’s Luncheon Honorees: The Old Joliet Prison Museum

A spectacular evening in August 2022, an event named Blues Brothers Con brought 5,700 people out to see Blues Brothers Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi, other Blues artists and local bands perform at the Old Joliet Prison Historic Site, according to Gregg Peerbolte, Joliet Area Museum Director. A new addition to their Prison Museum venue, they hope to offer it again in the future.
