Think & Drink: Singing Bird & the Importance of Native American Women in Illinois History

For November’s Think & Drink, join award-winning Ojibwa author and Illinois Humanities Road Scholar Kim Sigafus McIver for an interactive presentation on Native American women in Illinois history.

Dressed in her native regalia, Sigafus McIver will highlight the lives of influential women like Singing Bird (Blackhawk’s wife) and Hononegah. She will explore their daily lives, including courting, marriage, and child-rearing, and discuss their roles in their husbands’ lives and Illinois history.

Attendees will get the chance handle traditional items, explore Native language and music, and even have the opportunity to play the drum. Kim’s engaging storytelling and cultural insights promise a memorable experience.
