How to Participate

Step #1

To become a certified Junior Ranger, you’ll need a Junior Ranger booklet and a copy of the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area’s map brochure (where you’ll find all the answers to complete the Junior Ranger certification!). Both are free and available at participating attractions in the I & M Canal National Heritage Area, Illinois Tourism Offices and Illinois Convention and Visitors Bureaus. There is no fee to participate in the Junior Ranger program.

Step #2

Complete the number of Junior Ranger booklet activities according to your age.

  • Up to 6 years old – 3 activities
  • 7-9 years old – 5 activities
  • 10-12 years old – 7 activities

Step #3

See all the locations below where you can turn in your completed Junior Ranger booklet and be sworn in as an official Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area Ranger. Once sworn in, you will receive your badge and certificate.
