Think & Drink – Rise from Ruins: The Great Lockport Fire of 1895
August 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
For this month’s Think & Drink, we’re doing something a little different: we’re opening a new history exhibit!
Beginning Thursday, August 8, our 3rd floor gallery will feature Rise from Ruins: The Great Lockport Fire of 1895.
This exhibit coincides with Main Street Lockport’s Fire Fest, taking place Saturday, August 10, in downtown Lockport.
To kick off the opening of this exhibit, Gary Ward from the Lockport Area Genealogical and Historical Society will share the dramatic events that ruined and then reshaped the city’s downtown. Learn about the fire’s impact and the pivotal role it played in the creation of the Lockport Fire Department.
Also, meet artist Kevin Traynor, whose vivid, original chalk art covers the gallery walls, recreating scenes from Lockport daily life before, during, and after the fire. He will discuss his work and approach to creating this unique exhibit.
The presentation will be in our 2nd floor banquet room before we head up to open the 3rd floor gallery.
Beverages will be available for purchase from the Public Landing Restaurant, conveniently located within the Gaylord Building. These talks are geared toward adults, but thinkers of all ages are welcome to attend based on their interest and attention levels.
Registration is recommended for this free event so we don’t overfill the room.
