Experience 10 beautiful Will County trails during their fall splendor: Forsythe Woods Nature Trail at Forked Creek Preserve – Forsythe Woods: 0.5 mile Evans-Judge Nature Trail Loop at Evans-Judge Preserve: 1.5 miles* Spring Creek Greenway Trail at Messenger Marsh: 2.2 miles* Plum Creek Greenway Trail at Goodenow Road Access: 2.2 miles Hickory Creek Bikeway and LaPorte Road Nature Trail at Hickory Creek Preserve – La Porte Road Access: 2.2 miles* Wauponsee Glacial Trail at Sugar Creek Preserve: 2.6 miles* Normantown Trail at Vermont Cemetery Preserve: 2.9 miles Rock Run Greenway Trail at Hammel Woods – DuPage River Access: 3.2 miles* Old Plank Road Trail at Washington Street Access: 3.2 miles* Spring Creek Greenway Trail at Hadley Valley – Bruce Road Access: 4.4 miles* *Starred trails feature routes that are easily extended to lengthen your walk. SUMMARY:Will-Derness Women's Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a women’s camping weekend to connect with nature and friends new and old!\nTake time to unplug and enjoy the outdoors with camping\, hiking\, evening campfires\, camp cooking\, outdoor skills\, mindfulness activities and more. \nThis three-day\, two-night campout is held in a safe\, supportive atmosphere with cheerful staff. No experience is necessary. The weekend will begin at 4 p.m. Friday\, May 31\, and will conclude at 10 a.m. Sunday\, June 2. Bring your own tent; sleeping bag and pad; flashlight; camp chair; and water bottle. All other shared group camping equipment\, including firewood\, will be provided. Registration includes Saturday dinner and light breakfasts Saturday and Sunday. Please bring food for Friday’s dinner\, as well as lunches\, snacks and beverages\, which may include wine and beer. \nA packing list\, menu and weekend itinerary will be provided prior to the program. If you do not have camping gear\, the Forest Preserve offers a limited amount of camping gear on loan. If you need loaner gear\, inquire by calling 815-727-8700. \nFee: $20 per person. Age: Ages 21 or older. Registration required by Tuesday\, May 28\, by calling 815-727-8700 or online. \nThis program will be held in a primitive campground with a port-o-john restroom and hand-pumped water access. No bathhouse or indoor restrooms will be available. This program requires group participation\, including meal preparation and cleanup\, setting up group equipment for activities and social time with other participants. \nThis program takes place entirely outdoors on natural terrain and will be held rain or shine. Our staff will be monitoring for severe weather. SUMMARY:Woodcock Walk - Hickory Creek
DESCRIPTION:As the sun sets\, the male woodcock makes his way to the edge of a field and prepares for his extraordinary courtship performance. Normally timid and elusive\, the woodcock is readily observed during the early spring breeding season\, when he leaves the safety and cover of the forest to attract a mate. We will spend the first part of the evening discovering just how amazing this bird is\, then hike to view the courtship flights of the male. \nFee: Free! Age: Ages 7 or older. Registration required by Wednesday\, March 13\, by calling 815-722-4121 or online. \nBe sure to dress for the weather as we will stand in place for a bit to listen for the calls and look for the flight of the woodcock. Meet at the Hickory Hollow Shelter\, which can be accessed from the second parking lot furthest from the LaPorte Road Access entrance. \nThe hike will be approximately 1 mile on both paved and natural surface trails over uneven terrain. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program. \n

SUMMARY:Morning Bird Hike
DESCRIPTION:The trails may be snowy and cold\, but the birds will be out. Join other birders as we learn\, explore and search for winter residents in the preserve. This hike will highlight birds that spend their winters in Hickory Creek Preserve. Winter is a great time for birdwatching. With the leaves gone from the trees\, the birds are easier to spot. Even in the cold the birds are still active. Bring your binoculars and a favorite bird guide. New birders are welcome as this is an excellent way to increase bird knowledge.\nFee: Free!\nAge: Ages 16 and over.\nRegistration required by Saturday\, Feb. 3\, by calling 708-946-2216 or online.\nThis program will be at Hickory Creek Preserve — LaPorte Road Access. Dress for the weather.\nParticipants will enjoy a hike of 1.5 miles to 2 miles on paved and natural surfaces across uneven terrain.
