Our Fundraising and Donor Privacy Policies and Procedures
The Canal Corridor Association (CCA) is a tax exempt, charitable non profit corporation committed to preserve history, protect nature and open space, and create destinations where people can learn and have fun in the I&M Canal National Heritage Area from Chicago to LaSalle-Peru. All donations solicited on behalf of CCA shall be used to further this mission and follow the policies and procedures outlined below.
Funds shall be solicited in a respectful manner and without pressure. All third parties not directly affiliated with CCA who wish to solicit funds on behalf of CCA must obtain written permission from CCA’s president prior to beginning any fundraising activities. Donor-designated restrictions on accepted contributions shall be honored. CCA is a tax exempt charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and contributions made to the CCA are tax deductible. Written tax receipts will be issued by CCA for all accepted donations. If the donor receives anything of value in exchange for a donation, such as a dinner or event admission, the tax receipt shall state what portion of the donation is tax deductible. Before the beginning of each calendar year, CCA shall provide each donor with written documentation of all tax deductible gifts received from such donor during the prior calendar year.
Upon receipt, all monetary donations shall be recorded and deposited in accordance with CCA’s accounting and financial procedures. All donor-designated restrictions shall be communicated to the president and to CCA’s bookkeeper and recorded and complied with by CCA. Requests for donors to remain anonymous shall be respected and noted in CCA’s books and records. All in-kind gifts that are accepted by CCA shall be recorded and acknowledged in accordance with CCA’s accounting procedures.
Any information supplied to CCA by donors shall not be shared with third parties for any reason except as required by law or if the donor grants permission to share such information. CCA will not sell donor lists. Donors who supply CCA with their postal address or email address may be contacted periodically for solicitation purposes and/or with information regarding upcoming events. Donors may request to be permanently removed from CCA’s mailing list by contacting CCA via email, telephone or regular mail, and all requests to be removed from CCA’s mailing list shall be honored. Donors who supply CCA with their telephone numbers shall only be contacted by telephone regarding donations they have made. CCA will not engage in or participate in telephone fundraising activities.
Event Refund Policy
This policy applies to events sponsored by the Canal Corridor Association. If you need to cancel your reservation, for any reason, please call us to let us know as soon as possible. If notice is given 14 days or more prior to the event date, the fee will be refunded. Cancellations received 13 days or less will forfeit the entire fee. Under certain circumstances your fee may be applied to another date and time.
