21st Annual CCA Boat Captain’s Luncheon
Friday, April 8, 2016 • 11:30am – 1:00pm
Union League Club, 65 W Jackson Blvd • Chicago, IL
The 21st Annual Boat Captains Luncheon, the premier friend & fund raising benefit of the Canal Corridor Association and I&M Canal National Heritage Area will be held April 8, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at the Union League Club in Chicago.
Each year at the luncheon, the Canal Corridor Association seeks to acknowledge an individual or organization that demonstrate exemplary commitment to furthering the goals of the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area. This year we are proud to honor M. Blouke Carus, Chairman Emeritus of Carus Corporation.
Mr. Carus has been instrumental in promoting the mission of the nation’s first heritage area through education, preservation and community development. Mr. Carus, former chairman of Carus Publishing Company, served by Presidential appointment as a member of the National Council on Education Research and was Chairman of the Citizens Committee to establish the Illinois Valley Community College. As a preservationist, he is the Chairman of the Hegeler Carus Foundation, which supports the Hegeler Carus Mansion, a National Historic Landmark, and has spent many years working to revitalize downtown LaSalle through the rehabilitation of the Kaskaskia Hotel.
Past honorees to receive the Boat Captain’s Award have included governmental leaders, media leaders, corporate CEOs and heads of private foundations. All share a passion and commitment to preserving history that brings clarity to our future by understanding our past.
