DESCRIPTION:Annual Spring Clean-Up \n\n\nClaim Your Section Of The Canal Trails! \nThe Illinois and Michigan Canal State Trail is 62 miles from Rockdale (Joliet) to LaSalle and is a popular recreational trail utilized by hikers\, bikers\, and joggers. After the long winter\, debris and litter descend upon the trail and banks of the canal\, and\, as an advocate for the I&M Canal National Heritage Area\, we organize clean-ups to beautify the surroundings. \nOur annual I&M Canal Spring Clean-Up is held the third week of April around Earth Day. To participate: \n\nGrab your friends\, family\, co-workers\, etc. and form a group.\nChoose a date that works best for you\nEmail Mara Moore at programs@iandmcanal.org to coordinate with her on claiming a section of the canal to clean.\nThen come on out and clean the canal!\n\nWe start taking reservations at the beginning of the year and until we run out of sections. \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:This ongoing program runs from Wednesday\, May 1\, to Friday\, May 31. Preserve hours are 8 a.m. to sunset. \nTake part in the inaugural Four Rivers bird photography competition! Submit your picture of a migratory bird at McKinley Woods for a chance to win a gift certificate to the Cornell Lab Bird Academy(Opens in a new window) and new bird-feeding supplies from Wild Birds Unlimited of Joliet(Opens in a new window). Winners will be selected in two age categories: adult (18 and older) and youth (17 and younger). \nIf you’re a new birder\, challenge yourself to learn a new bird. If you’re a seasoned pro\, challenge yourself to get the perfect photograph of a migratory bird. Visit Four Rivers Environmental Education Center to check out recent sightings and learn where you’ll have the best chance to find the bird you’re looking for. \nRegister your bird photo by scanning the QR code at the photo submission stations along the trails and in the visitor center for the duration of the contest.
