DESCRIPTION:Looking for a way to connect with fellow Goosechasers?\nJoin us for this meetup to get to know other Take It Outside challenge participants and maybe even complete some missions together. Stop by the shelter to let us know what you’re enjoying about the challenge and meet other Goosechasers then set out on an adventure of your own. \nThis is not an interpretive hike. Forest Preserve staff will be on hand to answer questions and troubleshoot for challenge participants. Those who attend are welcome to hit the trails with others to complete missions and make plans to meet up for future Take It Outside outings. We will meet up rain or shine; if the meetup must be canceled due to severe weather\, a message will be sent to participants via the Goosechase app. No registration required. \nMeet at the Gougar Road Access shelter. The parking lot and shelter area are accessible. Preserve trails are on paved surfaces over uneven terrain. DESCRIPTION:Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi Return to Old Joliet Prison for Second Annual Blues Brothers Con\nJoliet Area Historical Museum pays tribute to the iconic Blues Brothers film on Saturday\, August 17th at Old Joliet Prison \nJOLIET\, Ill. – The Joliet Area Historical Museum will host its second annual Blues Brothers Con featuring actors Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi\, reprising their roles as The Blues Brothers at Old Joliet Prison on Saturday\, August 17th\, 2024. The festival will once again transform the 16-acre historic prison site into a tapestry of sights and sounds to honor the iconic Blues Brothers film – that was filmed on its grounds – as well as celebrate Blues music’s influence on the prison throughout its history. \nThe ‘Blues Brothers’ film is about passing on the love of Blues music to a new generation\, said Greg Peerbolte\, chief executive officer of the Joliet Area Historical Museum. The Prison’s connection to the Blues dates back to the 1932 recording of Memphis Minnie’s ‘Joliet Bound.’ Blues music helps us to confront – and heal – the Prison’s often difficult historic legacy. Following the incredible fan response to last year’s event\, we are extremely grateful to Dan Aykroyd and Judy Belushi Pisano and the Belushi family to pass on the film itself – and the music it cherishes – to new generations. \nAykroyd and Belushi will emcee a stacked lineup of iconic and diverse Chicago Blues performers featuring\, Curtis Salgado\, Ronnie Baker Brooks\, Lil Ed & The Blues Imperials\, and Al Spears & The Hurricane Project. \nThe evening will be appropriately capped off by a Maxwell Street-style Blues jam session where Dan\, Jim and other Blues Brothers alumni will take part in a special encore performance featuring hits from the film. Blues Brothers fans can also expect a variety of experiences\, appearances and one-of-a-kind photo ops throughout the day. \nProceeds from the event support the operations of the Joliet Area Historical Museum\, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit that has operated educational tours and community programs at the Old Joliet Prison Historic Site since 2018. DESCRIPTION:Our annual Hummingbird Fest has been reworked this year to allow more visitors to see the fan-favorite banding of the hummingbirds and puts the spotlight on our fast\, feathered friends and other pollinators. The Lincoln Land Association of Bird Banders will have certified banders on site for you to observe the hummingbird banding process. Funding for the banding is made possible by the Thorn Creek Audubon Society. \nBeyond the banding\, learn how to take action at home to help pollinators of all kinds. View the live monarch and honeybee displays. Play like a hummingbird and shop vendor row for bird-friendly merch including native plants from The Nature Foundation of Will County. \nFee: Free! Age: All ages. No registration required. \nThis event takes place in an accessible facility and outdoors on paved pathways and natural terrain. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program. \n

DESCRIPTION:Gaetano’s Vault and NCI Artworks partner to offer an open-air Fine Art Brunch from 11 to 3pm on Sunday\,  August 18th. NCI ARTworks is partnering with Gaetano’s Vault co-owners Stephanie and Rick Wilkinson to offer patrons and passersby the opportunity to view and purchase art by local artists from the tri-county area during brunch service on August 18. Art will be displayed in the courtyard of Gaetano’s Vault. \nAccording to Julia Messina\, the executive director of NCI ARTworks\, this collaboration is the outcome of discussions about expanding opportunities for local artists to showcase their work in venues that attract new audiences for their art and provide an added value to the venues themselves. \nStreator is a special place for me personally\, as part of my family is from there\, stated Messina\, and professionally it is as well\, since NCI ARTworks was instrumental in facilitating the creation of the magnificent Heritage Park mural just down the block from Gaetano’s Vault\, which was designed and painted by the Westclox Studio muralists who painted the Heritage Park mural. \n
