SUMMARY:Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall
DESCRIPTION:As Vietnam War Veterans Day approaches (March 29)\, the Village of Romeoville is honored to announce that the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be displayed in Romeoville from August 21 – August 24. Arriving by trailer\, a welcome parade will escort the wall into town on the morning of the 21st. The wall will then be assembled in the football field parking lot between Village Hall and the Recreation Center. The public will be welcome to view the wall starting at 1 pm on the 21st. Viewing hours are dawn to dusk\, ending when the sun sets on the 24th. \nSecuring the wall took significant advanced planning. Village staff initially reached out to the group behind the wall in July of 2023. The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is six feet tall at the center and covers nearly 300 feet from end to end. It is a 3/5 scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. \n“As the son of a Vietnam War veteran\, it is especially moving for me that Romeoville will be hosting the wall\,” said Mayor Noak. “I encourage everyone to come view this display and to honor those who served in Vietnam and perished or remain missing.” \nMore details on the wall and accompanying festivities will be available on romeoville.org as August approaches. DESCRIPTION:Get out on the trail and enjoy the changing of the seasons with the 23rd annual Woods Walk challenge!\nThis ongoing program runs from Monday\, Sept. 1\, through Sunday\, Nov. 30. \nExperience 10 beautiful Will County trails during their fall splendor. Trails range from 0.5 miles to 3 miles in length\, and each trail offers its own unique experience. \nThis year’s featured trails are as follows: \n\n2.5 miles at Hammel Woods\n3 miles at Kankakee Sands Preserve\n2.5 miles at Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve\n2 miles at Messenger Woods Nature Preserve\n1.5 miles at O’Hara Woods Preserve\n0.5 miles at Raccoon Grove Nature Preserve\n1.5 miles at Riverview Farmstead Preserve\n1 mile at Rock Run Rookery Preserve\n2 miles at Theodore Marsh\n1.25 miles on Wauponsee Glacial Trail\n\nTo view all the routes\, visit our interactive map(Opens in a new window) or pick up your booklet after Sept. 1. Don’t forget to log your walks as you go. To participate\, pick up a Woods Walk travel log on or after Sept. 1 online or at select Forest Preserve visitor centers: Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon\, Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook\, Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville\, Plum Creek Nature Center in Crete Township and Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet. Returning this year is the option to track and log walks easily and conveniently using the Goosechase app. \nComplete seven of the 10 Woods Walk trails and receive a 2025 Woods Walk hiking medallion featuring a fox. The deadline to submit a completed travel log is Sunday\, Dec. 7. \nFunding for Woods Walk has been generously provided by The Nature Foundation of Will County(Opens in a new window). \nEvent requirements\nNo registration is required. \nThe trails included in the program are asphalt\, limestone or natural surfaces across uneven terrain.
