DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Canal Corridor Association will host an Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau presentation entitled “Singing Bird and the Importance of Native American Women in Illinois History” by Kim Sigafus. \nDressed in her native regalia\, Kim will be giving a history of the natives in Illinois with a focus on native women\, or what was considered “The Hidden Half.” Her primary focus will be women such as Singing Bird (Blackhawk’s wife)\, and Hononegah. Kim will bring the audience into these women’s day-to-day lives\, including courting\, marriage\, and child-rearing. She will also talk about their role in their husbands’ lives\, and how those lives affected the history of Illinois. \nKim will bring native items that women would have used in their daily lives\, as she discusses the role women played within the family unit. The audience will be able to pick up and view the items\, learn native language and music\, and get the chance to play the drum in this interactive experience. \nKim Sigafus is an award-winning Ojibwa author who writes Native American fiction\, non-fiction\, children’s and young adult books. She has presented on native history\, food\, and music\, and has traveled all over the Midwest in her native regalia\, bringing native culture to life. Kim’s family is from White Earth Reservation\, located in the northwest corner of Minnesota. She sings and drums\, as well as crafts dream catchers and Talking Feathers. \n  \n\nRegister Now \n\n  \nThis event is being produced by Canal Corridor Association in partnership with Illinois Humanities. The Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau invites Illinois authors\, artists\, and educators to share their expertise and enthusiasm with people throughout the state\, enabling local nonprofit organizations to present free-admission cultural programs to their communities. DESCRIPTION:Take a stroll through Downtown Lemont and enjoy the holiday display. There will be loads of dazzling lights nuzzled against family-owned shops\, restaurants\, taverns\, and breweries. Now is the perfect time to capture photos of this Winter Wonderland. The display will be up unitl January 31st. \nStop by Saturday\, December 2nd to enjoy an evening filled with family activities and music during Lemont’s Hometown Holiday event. The tree lighting is at 5:00pm\, but while you wait\, take a moment to enjoy the activities such as carousel rides\, face painting\, holiday craft\, Santa visits\, tractor rides\, and much more. Activities will start at 3:00pm and end at 7:30pm. Toy donations will also be accepted after the toy parade at 5:00pm. \nWith all the excitement\, it is only right to grab a camera and create memories. There will be special decorative lighting displays in the lots by Nex Mex on Front Street\, along Candy Cane Lane down the canal strip on Front Street. Kids will also have a chance to meet and greet Frosty and Rudolph as they roam dowtown.

Be inspired by every kind of Christmas decor in the stunning variety of homes that will be on display!\n\n\nCheck-in at Marquette Academy elementary campus (enter on Washington Street). Check-in is from 2:45-5:30pm. Presale tickets cost $25\, $30 at the door. Show your purchase confirmation email to receive a wristband and location details. Wristbands are required to enter homes. You can tour homes in any order between 3-8pm. Addresses of the homes will be handed out at Check-in. You must drive to each location as they are not within walking didstance. There is no photography\, video\, food\, drinks or pet allowed in homes.
