SUMMARY:Louis Jolliet\, Fr. Jacques Marquette and Fellow "Voyageurs"
DESCRIPTION:On May 17th of this year\, we celebrated the 350th anniversary of Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette’s landmark expedition of discovery from the year 1673. The “discovery” that laid the groundwork for the settlement of the interior of the Colonial American Continent. From the Western side of the Appalachian Mountains to as far west of the Mississippi river as colonists would dare. From the Hudson Bay in the North\, all the way South to the Gulf of Mexico. All for Louis\, The XIV\, The King of France in 1673.\nOn August 12\, Louis Jolliet\, Fr. Jacques Marquette and fellow “voyageurs” will be at the I&M Canal. They will paddle their voyager canoes\, tell of their travels\, sing their native songs and demonstrate how they survive in the Illinois territory environment. Come and talk to them and ask about their 1673 trip to The Chicago Portage.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:A River Thru History
DESCRIPTION:A River Thru History is a living history reenactment of early American life\, as it was on the Illinois frontier prior to 1848\, with emphasis on our local history from the fur trade era to the canal era. The goal of this rendezvous is to be the premier event of this type in this area by creating an exciting\, entertaining and educational experience for all ages. To this end\, we strive to create a better understanding and appreciation of our history by allowing the public and the reenactors to mingle\, both as witnesses and participants\, in our event. Finally\, we seek to have the most authentic and highest quality reenactors and trade goods to represent our vision of the rendezvous. This is consistent with the overall goal of the Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor Civic Center Authority\, which is to promote and enhance the historic\, recreational and economic development of this new style National Park\nParking at nearby UPS facility 7811 Willow Springs Road\, Hodgkins IL\n \nAdmission: (cash only accepted at the gate )\n\n\nChildren under 6 – FREE!\n\n\n$5.00 Children 6 to 17\n\n\n$5.00 Senior (over 62)\n\n\n$10.00 Adults\n\n\n$25.00 Family Pass (1 or 2 adults\, up to 4 children age 6-17)\n\n\nOR BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE.\n
