The Global Challenge of ‘Place Making’ with Speaker Gerald Adelmann

Join us on October 19th 2017 at 11:00am for Lewis University’s James & Mary Sczepaniak Lecture Series with speaker Gerald W. Adelmann presenting “The Global Challenge of ‘Place Making’: How can cities maintain their cultural and natural heritage in the path of massive change?.”
Gerald W. Adelmann is president and CEO of the non-profit Openlands. He joined Openlands in 1980 to coordinate a special program that led to the creation of the Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor, the first federal land designation of its kind. Today, there are more than 50 federally designated heritage areas across the United States. He also provided leadership in the creation of the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie and the rare and scenic landscape at the Openlands Lakeshore.
Adelmann is chairman of the Center for Humans and Nature and an emeritus member of the National Board of Advisors of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He has been involved in conservation and historic preservation projects in China since the early 1990s. He lectures extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Adelmann has received an honorary doctorate from Lewis University and is an honorary member of the American Association of Landscape Architects. He is also a member of Lewis University’s History Center’s Advisory Board.
The lecture begins at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 in the University Dining Room on the Lewis University Main Campus located at 1 University Parkway, Romeoville, Il .
